Hippo Pictures
Hippos appear to be large docile water dwelling animals, but do not be fooled. They kill more people than any other mammal in Africa! They are ferocious when separated from water, and will attack. They have sizeable teeth. Yes, they look big on photos, but a did you that a hippos teeth are as long as a humans forearm! Don’t mess with hippos! There are so many sad stories in Africa about people who have been killed by hippos. What normally happens is that at night hippos come out of the water to graze grass. Hippos can go far inland. When suddenly a human is between them and the water, the hippo panics and attacks. Hippos are extremely fast! Beware of hippos at night. I have nearly crashed a 4x4 vehicle into one. I was on a night drive, and came around a corner, and there in the road, far away from the river was a hippo. Fortunately the hippo moved just in time!
How do you take good hippo pictures? As always the best time for hippo pictures is in the early morning or early evening. However, this is when they tend to remain in the water. Although you can get some good hippo pictures when they are gathered in a pod, these are your standard ones. One of the best hippo pictures that I have seen was taken early on a winter’s morning. It is a panoramic hippo picture, with the hippo in the middle, and this v-shaped steam coming out of its nose. This is the most impressive hippo picture I have ever seen.
Apart from that hippo picture, most are classic snapshots of hippos on land. These hippo pictures show the hippo as a large clumsy animal with a large pink belly. Come to think of it, there is something really interesting about hippos. They spend hours in the sun and have an extremely sensitive skin, yet they do not get cancer. There is something in the oil that they secrete that prevents skin cancer. Scientists are looking into this as a possible alternative to sun cream. Anyways, that is an interesting fact that I have come across about hippos.
Those are some of the facts, and stories that I have come across over the years. I would love to hear some of yours. Or if you come across any interesting sites about hippos, add them to this blog. Also, if you have any hippo pictures, please submit them. We would really appreciate it if you could socially bookmark this page. Many Thanks.
